Grub St.: This bustling old Latin luncheonette (bright red counter, bright yellow menu board) dishes up good cheer and soulful chow in equal measure, and also smooshes the city’s second best Cubano.
Grub St: Jimmy’s is that rare New York bar that cannot be oversold. It’s cheap, the jukebox is excellent, and among the many wall decorations is a sign reading “Let’s not talk politics here.”
Grub St: Crush tends to lose some of its trademark swank during pre-commute peak hours, when a concentration of suits fills the showroom and the shop’s name turns somewhat literal.
The uptown outpost of one our favorite cheese shops in the city. Smaller than the original and lacking in the awesome sandwiches, but great for grocery shopping or a quick snack.
Tasty, high quality sandwiches with rotating seasonal options. More expensive than the average bodega, but also a lot better.
A vegetarian-friendly source for reasonably priced ramen, soba, and more in Midtown. Be sure to explore the simple Japanese vegetables like tempura and bamboo shoots in chili oil.
A solid mini-chain devoted to kati rolls, the Indian version of a burrito. The vegetarian fillings are our favorites.
Stylish tacos, tortas, and cocktails in an unlikely location. Braised lamb naan tacos and fried pig's ears are must-orders.
Stop in here for what may be the best pancakes in Midtown - buttery, slightly crispy, and fluffy.
Grand Central Terminal's branch of Joe does great coffee, but also with friendly and helpful service.
