On the If Island, one of the Frioul Islands, this castle from the 16th century castle was turned into a jail, in which the Count of Monte-Cristo is kept prisoner according to Alexandre Dumas' novel!

Take frioul if express from Vieux port. €16 ticket for the boat and €6 ticket for chateau entry (quite steep). Milking of money in the name of Cristo's legend and Dumas.

Absolute must on the marseille itinerary. The island from where count of monte Cristo (Edmond Dantes) escaped. The legendary character of Alexandre Dumas which made the island famous.

La prison d'Edmond Dantès ! Construit au 16è s., il fut une prison pendant 400 ans. Monument Historique depuis 1926, il est accessible en navette depuis le Vieux Port.
