    First NT property that has thoroughly entertained our 3 yr old start to finish. Great interactive exhibits, a very cool outdoor playground and a nice indoor play room - good for babies too

    Park at the Hall but do the walk around the estate and down to the river (map available at reception). End with tea and cake at farm shop. Buy your Sunday joint while you're there.

    Excellent outpost of the National Portrait Gallery collection inside the house. Make time to walk the parkland as well as the gardens: they're very peaceful. Check out the farm shop, too.

    Lovely walled garden growing fruit and veg for the restaurant including many varieties of apple. House more like an art gallery than stately home, with lots on loan from the National Portrait Gallery

    On warm weather the wasps rule the picnic area near the children's outdoor play area. Picnic on the lawn instead.

    Good food using vegetables from the garden. Popular cycling destination for the family - lots to do for the kids
