The longest (and most expensive) bridge in the world when it opened in 1936, the BayBridge was first proposed by self-proclaimed "Emperor Norton I" in 1869.
BayBridge has been turned into the latest and by far the biggest backdrop for artist Leo Villareal, who programmed 25k lights spaced a foot apart to create the world's largest illuminated sculpture
North of the bridge, there is an open area by the water. You can use the railing to steady your camera, then catch the whole bridge in frame. After sunset there are great reflections off of the water.
One of the few double deck bridges in the Bay Area. Great route that takes you to Treasure Island/Yerba Buena Island and straight into Oakland. Traffic on this bridge tends to be very congested.
There is no way to avoid the horrible traffic, especially when everybody wants to cross this amazing work of engineering. The new BayBridge looks stunning.
The entire bridge still IS the baybridge, just this one span was renamed. And I bet you can't say who it was named for before, so don't let it get you so down. The bridge is still the baybridge.
Instead of getting frustrated with the traffic when you're headed into the city, take a second and admire the ridiculous view that is SF. Bonus points for a clear night to enjoy it.
