Ignore the great body of the Thames hurtling over your head and enjoy a ten minute walk from one bank to another. Entrances at Island Gardens DLR station and Greenwich pier.

This crossing has the distinction of being London’s ‘least remarkable bridge’! It retains the pale blue colour scheme it had when it opened 1940, as camouflage against German air attack.
There were no bridges across the river between London Bridge and Kingston until one was built here at Putney in 1729, so ferries, water-taxis and lightermen did a thriving trade.

This is the furthest downstream lock on the Thames, built in 1894 to ensure the river upstream retains a depth of at least 1.72 metres, and so is safe for boats and barges.
Don't be a square like the locals - walk the bridge, the bus fare isn't worth wasting your cash on. You'll miss the view and the fresh air.
Very friendly service and an excellent way to quickly get across the river... if it is running !! For a small charge they will take bikes and pets too ;-)
