Berlines Weisse

American Wheat

Usually clear in contrast to most other wheat beers, slightly tart, very refreshing, (Widmer Hefe, southern tier hop sun)

Dunkelweizen

Lambic/Guze

Belgian Strong Pale

Tripel

Light/pale color, balanced malt & hop aroma, sweetish alcohol content. (Tripel Karmeliet, Westmalle Tripel, Chimay White)

Abt

Strongest style brewed by abbey monks who it's named after, very similar to quads (Rochefort 10, Bernardus 12)

American Pale Ale

Medium maltiness, high hop & aroma from American hop varieties, (Oskar blues Dale's pale ale, stone pale)

Imperial IPA

Also called double IPA's, these high alcohol beers are balance by intense hop character & full body, no aged characters, but instead should be fresh & bright. (dog fish head 90 minutes, stone ruination, great divide Hercules IPA)

English Pale

Golden to amber color & dominated by malt flavor, very little hop bitterness or aroma in this low alcohol ale. (Firestone walker DBA)

Olde Ale/Strong Ale

Well aged. Malty & fruity. High alcohol. low hop. (Arrogant bastard, Fuller's vintage, hair of the dog Adam)

Scottish Ale

Low carbonation. medium maltiness. low bitterness. medium to no hop flavor & aroma. mild smokey/toasty character (Bellhaven Scottish, Pelican MacPelican)

English Brown

Brown Porter

California Common

Originally called a steam beer, it is brewed w/ lager yeast, but at warmer temperature resultin in a medium body amber beer. Noticeable caramel flavor & medium hoppiness (anchor steam, baird red rose amber)

Kolsch

A warm fermented ale that is conditioned cold often w/ larger yeast for a crisp finish. Low caramel character as well as low hop flavor & aroma. (Sunner kolsch, reissdorf olsch)

American Lite

Little to no malt aroma. Very low in hops. Crisp & dry refreshing. (Michelob ultra, bud lite)

American Dark

Bohemian Pilsner

Malty, w/ a distinctive floral & spicy saaz hop bouquet. crisp & refreshing. (Pilsner Urquell, heater Allen pils, Lagunitas pils)

Schwarz-Bier

Malt & roasted malt aroma & flavor. Low hop aroma. Bitterness from roasted mal. (Monchschof schwartzbier)

Helles Bock

Malty. Mildly hopped. Relatively high alcohol level. Amber in color. (Rogue dead guy, sierra nevada helles bock)

Doppel Bock

Intense maltiness. Little hop aroma & flavor. Touch of roastiness. A very strong, rich, dark lager. (Ayinger celebrator, weltenburger kloster asam bock)

American Lager

Helles Lager

Dunkel

Medium bodied beers that range widely in color, but dominated by malty aroma & sweetness. More bread or biscuit-like than caramel in character & low but noticeable hops. (Ayinger oktoberfest-marzen, lakefront riverwest, stein)

Bock

Rich & complex maltiness. No hop aroma & flavor. (Aktein st. martin, christoffel bock)

Eisbock

Aroma & flavor dominated by rich malt & concentrated alcohol. No hop aroma & flavor. An extremely strong lager. (Klumbacher eisbock, eku 28)
