The selection of books outside seems to have improved lately. More deals than in the recent past. Look for the "cheaper than the ebook" table inside.

The poli sci / philosophy / social science section downstairs is one of the best in the city. They have some decent sales upstairs too.

A NYC original. Great place to buy books. It's always cheaper than Barnes & Noble and you can get out of print and first edition books.

Decent math section downstairs, albeit relatively small given the store's size. Look here to round out your math bookshelf by scoring some great used finds for cheap.

Check out the $2 book section. If you look hard enough you can always find something interesting. You definitely won't leave without buying something.

You can spend hours in this store and not know it: If you enter when it's sunny, it's likely to be dark when you exit. It's walking distance to some great cafes around Union Square.

Crazy number of book used new and out of print. It's one of a kind. Browse the aisles which are not like your typically big box store.

Huge selections on art. Although some of them mistakenly say out of print or more expensive than new books.

If the book you're looking for is featured on one of the front display tables, chances are there are cheaper copies of it on the shelf. Also- Look for Turkish banana taffy when checking out.

Great for broke teens with little allowance money!!!! Saturdays outside they sell books for as little for $1.50!!!!!!

2nd Floor bathrooms (which bookend the Children's Books help desk) are generally low-wait and high-cleanliness, which is an oasis in the Union Square area.
