2nd Floor in Rosebank Mall - excellent seafood, sushi combinations, wines, and service. Comfy seating, and you can hear yourself talk to each other. Less crowded than Koi, and almost as good!

Authentic Siamese cuisine in Cyrildene / Bruma - hard to get to, but easy to find once you're there. Bring your own alcohol, the bottle shop next door closes at 7pm. Try the red duck curry on rice!
Great for weekend brunches of the see-and-be-seen set. Long waits if you don't know anybody, and the patio is nice too if you don't mind the sun. Try the chicken cutlet sandwich, fresh juices, coffees
More of a dinner place for me, more formal than Rosebank. Lovely steak tartar, beef welllington, pot pies, and frothy iced coffee drinks. Large patio on the Palazzo and fun wait staff.
Great place with a large open patio, braai sampler buffets, and combination platters. Face painting, live music, fun for groups, and bringing your out-of-town friends to hang out overlooking Zoo Lake
Somewhat more traditional, cozy and finer quality than the Zoo Lake location, but hey its the same food. Traditional African food presented in easy to sample buffets or platters.
Solid fusion food in a lovely setting in Braamfontein. Great for business lunches, or long evening dinners with a smoking garden in the back.
Nice floating boat sushi restaurant. Delicious soups, nice cuts of fish, open window corner restaurant. My mid-range sushi place in the hood!
Somewhat more upscale than the location in Melville, its next door to the McDonalds in Blackhealth (across from Cresta Mall). Dark interior, but good selection!
Great place for eggy brunches in Melville. Can get crowded, but there's parking in the back, and you can browse the book store next door or the I <3 Jozi store for cool clothes/home stuff while u wait
Casual and very popular. Bookings recommended Thurs-Sun evenings. Smoking room in the back. Hand-made thin crust pizzas, wide selection of wines, nice charcuterie platter. Try the lamb and mint pizza!
Traditional old world Chinese house on Derrick Ave - nice family run restaurant does dim sum on the weekends. Go early before 12noon otherwise they run out of stuff. Always friendly and accommodating!
Special occasions call for special locations. This is it. Fantastic view of African skies, rolling hills of Krugersdorp, surrounding Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. Hard to find! Use GPS!
Truly a food fair! Wide selection, but massive crowds. Shop for organic produce and baked goods, or sit down at the outdoor cafe for a big African brunch and coffees :)
Nice fireplace, great patio in Melville just steps from the action at the bars up the street. African fusion food - done very well and thoughtfully with touches from Asia, Italy and France
Authentic old world Chinese food. Not a pretty interior, and in a dodgy inner city location, but if you're brave and have good friends to go with, this is a great spot. Door man looks after your car
Fine Greek food in Melrose Arch, exceptional service, recommend a booking on weekends unless you know the maitre d. Perfection, satisfying, lovely outdoor patio on the palazzo
Traditional African food - pap, samp, rice, meat stews, chakalaka. I loved this place and went there every other day, since its around the corner from my office. Nice staff! :)
Very nice restaurant, wide outdoor seating area off the parking lot looking at Morningside - somewhat aseptic and impersonal. food was good though!
Not great, only ok. But it will do. Careful with the fish platters - I got allergic reactions to the grilled fish even though I am not allergic to anything. Meat platters are massive!
Shame its closed now, but it was authentic Italian food in a small family owned venue.
Decadent. The lamb shank is incredible. Recommend a booking on Thurs to Sat evenings, as the seating is limited. Desserts are incredible here.

Nice place in Melrose Arch, heavy pub food, casual dining, easy and uncomplicated but somewhat empty.
Fresh pastries baked daily! Croissants, danishes, sausage rolls, delicious and ready by 8am.
They have everything to dine in the mall or take-away, with sauces and chilis. Fish, lamb, mutton, beef, etc. All great. Closed during Ramadan, long queues give you lots of time to make up your mind
Pastas and pizzas and grills, but the salads are actually quite good too. Large outdoor patio, nice indoor upper deck. Noisy and busy, but its a good place to relax and unwind with friends for hours
