Download the museum "immersive walks". Incredible Experience. Program for a whole day. You can have lunch outside and come back. Desert must be the Tiramissu at the cafe on fifth floor. Stunning!
The Snøhetta wing has vastly expanded the original Mario Botta building, though the new galleries don't benefit from much natural light. They are spacious, however, and the collection superb.
The whole museum is lovely. After their renovation, they have lots of space for exciting temporary exhibitions. The rooftopsculpture garden is a great way to take a mid-visit respite.
The museum has an extensive collection of 20th century art, from Fauvism and Cubism to Pop Art, Minimalism, and Abstract Expressionism. SFMOMA also boasts a notable collection of photography. Leggi tutto
One of the best values in SF. A museum for $25? That's fantastic. Open later on Thursdays and definitely avoid it during a rainy day - everyone and their mother shows up here. The MOMA app is terrible
Great contemporarymuseum with lots of surprises in the collection. Interestingly a large selection of 20th century German art that you don’t always see in other museums of it’s kind.
SFMO had seven floors of galleries and exhibits and all kinds of art from past to present. I would recommend going at least once if you haven't gone before.
Be prepared to spend the whole day here if you want to see everything! The Mattise/Deibenkorn exhibit is pehnomenal. Don't forget to stop by Sightglass coffee to grab a latte before you go!
The store has a LOT of good potential gifts. Even if you don't walk in for it, spend some time looking at the books, the selection is very interesting .
I have been here more than 10 times, and I still can't get enough of it! FYI, it's the biggest MOMA in the US, and I think that becoming a member is well worth it.
I don't think there is any excuse for an art lover to miss this place. Even though you might know all the works, they offer a wide range of tours around the museum to join in to expain your knownledge
Did you know? Opened in 1935, SFMOMA was the first museum on the West Coast dedicated to contemporary and modern art. It was also one of the first museums to recognize photography as a fine art. Leggi tutto
The audio tour is really incredible and totally immersive. Join the wifi and download the free app. It's location based and adds so much extra context to the work you are viewing.
They have a coffee shop, every museum should do this. We visited the Graphic Design Exhibition, the Photography and the Pop art. We still missed 4 floors.
Vast collection means you can't see everything. Consider grabbing the audio guide or downloading the iOS app for interactive tours. Definitely adds to the experience!
Saw the MOST amazing musical installation! Rangar Kjartansson playing with friends in a 9-screen surround-sound performance of "The Visitors" which takes place in a historic mansion in upstate NY.😍
Check out the temporary Edvard Munch exhibit while it is still here (ends October 8 or 9). Fantastic artist, who is often overlooked given some of the giants in that era.
